I cannot logon to EQ. I get the patcher is loading message which does not go away. I checked if my install of DirectX is still 9 and it appears to be. I did other updates and deletes on my computer but nothing helps.

      Added to the game with the October 2008 expansion of Seeds of Destruction.
      You must have the expansion. to use them.

      Pay an initial high price (200 pp to 1K or more) to get one, you then get to keep him forever until you dismiss him.I believe higher level mercs have more spells, more mana, but the lowest level ones do it all too. You would only want to dismiss one to get a better one, or change from cleric to tank or back.

      I hired the cheapest lowest level tank dude I could get so I could practice.

      first, to answer some basic questions:
      1. you hire for a large fixed price (my guy was only 155 pp or so) then pay every 10 or 15 minutes. It was only 3 pp I think. Top end guys are more like1600/35 pp
      2. you can have a pet too.

      Level 70 was a bear, no merchant spells. Now I have new mez, new pet, new runes, and some new dwerium jewelry.
      None of my toons has finished the spell missions, take that as a suggestion for some group activites.

      I've been soloing (at 70) Crypt of Decay mobs at the entrance. Not too bad, if I get into trouble I can zone. They're lb but good enchanter practice.
